The Season so far…
Game 1 – a win! Scoring: Shawn (Ty), Mike (Scott), Shawn 2 (Sal), Sal (unassisted). Man of the Match: Mike (Game-winning goal)+++++++
Game 2 – a win! Scoring: Ty 1 (Vince), Shawn 3 (pen), Shawn 4 (Mike) The “Elders” Man of the Match: Vince (Game-winning assist). Notes: Ty’s game-winner kicked ass! Greg is back. Shawn has 4 goals in his last 2 games.++++++++
Game 3 – a win! Notes: Scoring went like this:
Shawn 5 (Vince’s corner), Shawn 6 (Ty), Vince 1 (Mike)
Scott 1 (Walop), Shawn 7 (Stein), Shawn 8 (Mike).
Interesting Vince now has 4 assists, last year he had 0, it is good to
have a healthy Vinnie! We started 2 goals down against a good team – Rose and Thistle but they lost a player to injury and finished the game short-handed.
Game 4 – a win. The Salem Kickers played their toughest match of the season against the extra-physical PBR 77. This game could have gone horribly wrong from the start but the Kickers managed to weather the early storm. After escaping the first 10 minutes of the game unblemished, the Kickers got their offense going.
Walop got things going down the right flank hooking in a cross that Scott latched onto but his sliding effort was inches wide.
It was Matt Mckenna who broke the 0-0 with a dipping half-volley snap shot that caught the keeper off his line. Matt 1 (Vince).
Vince on the goal: “Dave threw it to me, I flicked it to Matt, Matt drilled it home. I have
cleat marks on my hip and a sore shoulder. That is all.”
Aaron added a second goal just before the halftime whistle. It was a screamer from the top right section the the 18 yard box. The cross came in from the right side where Mike attempted a bicycle kick. He missed. Badly. But the ball landed for Vince who tapped over to Aaron. Aaron drove a low shot through traffic from the top right of the 18 yard box. The goalie had time to react but the speed on the shot made a save unlikely. Game-winning goal. Aaron 1 (Vince). The goal just served as a reminder of what Aaron is capable of.
Man of the Match: Wade Smith (Keeper). Wade stopped a barrage of shots in the first half and kept a clean sheet. He allowed one goal in the second half and made countless saves, rarely giving up a rebound.
Game notes: Matt knocked heads with an opponent about 15 minutes from full time and had to leave the game with a two inch gash on his head. Kickers won despite missing four key players: Shawn Miller, Roy Shafer, Greg Keyte and Bret Davison.
